ABRIAN FAME interviewed by DIMITRI OZERKOV, Director of HERMITAGE 20/21, ST PETERSBOURG , RUSSIA. March 15, 2018
DIMITRI OZERKOV-Dear Abrian Fame, you are a mystical name that appears in fake posters all over museum and art fairs. How long are you practicing this activity?
AF -Funny enough your questions come to my mail exactly the anniversary date of the order of my 1rst poster the 16th of may 2015, that is mystical..!
DIMITRI OZERKOV-. Abrian Fame sounds lake a fake name produced with a lot of humour (Fame sounds attractive for an artist). How did you invent this name and what it means?
AF-The answer is exactly your question, i invented it playing around an other name i use for an other work.
DIMITRI OZERKOV-. Why you feel important to keep anonymity? Is it something that deal with your personality, your artistic statements, or very nature of your art?
AF-well more than anonymity it’s the creation of an other artist an other me.
DIMITRI OZERKOV-Tell me about your poster activity. When and why did it start and how many posters did you produce and display so far, and where?
AF-I loved this idea of posters i found it to be an efficient support that gives a lot of liberty as well; so far i displayed over 3000 of them and about 5000 flyers, mainly in the street and art fairs of Paris, Belgium, Geneva, Basel, Miami, Maastricht, just starting…
DIMITRI OZERKOV-. Your posters appear in places related to art appealing to international art crowd. Do you just want people to recognize you and go to your website?
AF-I want all kind of people to react to my posters, art fairs crowds are an easier public to reach but i also put them in a less targeted manner as well quite often, mainly in Paris where i live.
DIMITRI OZERKOV-You are mocking on a standard form of museum poster by illegally displaying your fake posters around art events. Once again: who are your targets?
AF- No i am not at all a mocker artist! My target is the state of the world threw the eyes of a form of art.
DIMITRI OZERKOV- Your posters announce your exhibitions in world famous museums. How would you classify yourself: are you a street artist, a poster artist, an environmentalist?
AF-Why should i choose?
DIMITRI OZERKOV- You illegally use logos of both museums (ex. Hermitage) and commercial companies on you posters. Is it an attack on museum politics or you just hate this kind of posters?
AF-It is more a general comments of the state of things and I love posters !
DIMITRI OZERKOV- I appreciate you art as an attack to art system. But displaying posters is very innocent act. How serious you are and how far away you want to go?
AF-I don’t thing displaying posters is such an innocent gesture at all, I am serious egnouh to have print and displayed thousands of them,it is only one of the forms i intend to use in the future.
DIMITRI OZERKOV- What is art today and where it goes? Do you feel blocked as an artist by the existence of strong system of galleries, museums and auction houses?
AF- Today poster is the landscape, in our open world today there must be an open door somewhere..
